GADSDEN POST—A multi-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, has claimed the life of a Ider man. Alvin D. Benefield, 62, was fatally injured when the 2003 Ford F-150 that he was driving, stuck a 2023 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Kakha-Melikidze, 43, of Staten Island, N.Y. After the initial impact, the Ford collided head-on with a 2020 Ford F-150 driven by Richard W. Bivins, 47, of Jacksonville. Benefield was not using a seat belt at the time of crash, was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Bivins was injured and transported to Erlanger Hospital, in Chattanooga, Tenn. for treatment. The passenger of the 2020 Ford F-150, Jermaine-White, 53, of Verbena, was also injured and transported to Erlanger Hospital for treatment.
The crash occurred on Interstate 59 near Dekalb 140, approximately one mile south of the Georgia state line, in Dekalb County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
