Two Year Investigation Leads to Murder Arrest
On Tuesday September 17, 2019, Investigators of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Divisions arrested Byron Keith SHIREY age 58 of Dutton, Alabama in connection with the May 24, 2017 murder of his father, Charles SHIREY.

This murder took place at Charles SHIREY’s residence on County Road 372 in Dutton, Alabama. The victim, Charles SHIREY, was 78 years of age at the time of his death which was determined to be caused by blunt force trauma.  

This arrest was the result of a two (2) year long investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Jackson County District Attorney’s Office with substantial assistance from the Alabama State Bureau of Investigations (SBI), the Alabama Attorney General (AG) Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences (DFS).

The evidence obtained during this investigation was presented to a Grand Jury seated in Jackson County, Alabama during the week of September 9th, 2019 and resulted in a TRUE BILL on Byron Keith SHIREY for the charge of MURDER.   Byron Keith SHIREY was arrested without incident at his residence in Dutton, Alabama and was placed in the Jackson County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
