Search and Rescue / Recovery Operations Continue At Buck’s Pocket State Park

Dekalb County, Alabama EMA activated to level 2 for search and rescue / recovery operation beginning at 8:55 pm on February 22, 2019 at Bucks Pocket State Park

DEKALB COUNTY, ALABAMA –

Dekalb and Jackson County emergency services were notified of an incident at Bucks Pocket involving a vehicle swept from the park roadway at the spillway bridge in the bottom of the canyon at approximately 8:30 pm on February 22, 2019.

Sherrif Nick Weldon requested EMA activation and deployment to support operations.

Dekalb County EMA personnel along with Marshall County EMA began coordnating together for repsonse activities overnight.

Emergency responders from the tri-county area (Dekalb, Jackson and Marshall) worked together to successfully rescued two individuals who were clinging to vegitation in the rapid water flow, down stream, from the spillway bridge at the base of the canyon.

Unfortunately, one individual has not been located as of this report and recovery operations are underway in attempts to bring the response to a resolution.
