Plainview Volleyball Advances to Class 3A Semifinals

CLASS 3A QUARTERFINALS
Prattville Christian, Ohatchee, St. Luke’s and
Plainview Advance to Wednesday’s Class 3A Semifinals
BIRMINGHAM – Prattville Christian, Ohatchee, St. Luke’s Episcopal, and Plainview all won first-round matches Wednesday as the AHSAA 52nd Elite 8 State Volleyball Chiampionships opened play for Classes 3A, 6A and 7A At the Birmingham CrossPlex.
    State championship matches for Classes 5A, 2A, 1A and 4A are also being played at the adjoining Bill Harris Arena today. All matches at both arenas are being live-streamed over the NFHS Network’s subscriber-based digital platform.
PRATTVILLE CHRISTIAN 3, GERALDINE 2 (12-25, 25-19, 25-22, 11-25, 15-13): Prattville Christian built a big lead in the winner-take-all fifth set and hung on for the victory. Hannah Jones led the Panthers (36-19), coached by Kaylon Cantrell, with 22 kills and two aces. Coco Thomas added nine kills, Sally Swindall had eight kills and Baylee Rogers delivered 40 assists.
     Geraldine (32-17), coached by Renee Bearden, got 20 kills and five blocks from Brooklyn Hall and 12 kills and two blocks from Kaleigh Butler. Zoey Faulkner contributed 24 assists, two aces and five digs, and Emma Baker had 18 assists and four digs.
     PCA plays Ohatchee at 3 p.m., today in the semifinals.

OHATCHEE 3, OPP 0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-13): Jordan Crook led Ohatchee, coached by Rebecca Hughes, to a straight set victory over Opp.
      Crook, a 6-foot senior, tallied 15 kills, eight digs, three blocks and three aces. Rebecca Henderson added three kills, four digs and two aces, and Alanah Fitch had 12 digs, seven assists and three aces. Hanna Fitch delivered 13 assists.
     Opp, coached by Caiden Harrell, finished the season with a 13-18 record. No statistics were available from Opp.

ST. LUKE’S EPISCOPAL 3, SUSAN MOORE 1 (25-22, 23-25, 27-25, 25-23): Freshman outside hitter Amelia Smith tallied 25 kills as the Wildcats earned a tense victory over Susan Moore. Cammie Waite added 22 digs and two assists for St. Luke’s (41-12), coached by Meredith Donald, and Lexi Garside had 61 assists and six digs.
    Susan Moore, coached by Adam Wilson, finished with a 48-11 record. Lacey Ford tallied 27 kills and five blocks for Susan Moore (50-11,) . Cali Smallwood added 23 kills and 11 digs. Kaitlin Hill added 54 assists and nine digs.
    St. Luke’s advances to play Plainview in the semifinals today at 3 p.m.

PLAINVIEW 3, HOUSTON ACADEMY 0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-20): Plainview, coached by Kaci Kirk, improved to 62-11 with the straight-set win. Houston Academy (25-13), coached by Chico Tran, got 18 kills from Mary Suzan Aman, 11 kills and 11 digs from Carryne Chancey and 26 assists and 16 digs from Abby Caldwell. No statistics were available from Plainview.
