Fort Payne Police Officers Assaulted While Serving Warrant

SUBJECT: Assault on Officers while serving warrant

On Saturday April 6 at 5:20 pm Fort Payne Police Officers went to Deerfield Apartments Chief Randy Bynum stated to serve a warrant on Jeffery Delane Watts age 45, while officers were attempting to take Watts into custody several of Watts family members attempted to interfere and assault officers on the scene.  Watts was eventually taken into custody on the warrant that officers were there to serve. Bynum stated Watts was also charged with Resisting Arrest, Possession of Marijuana second degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Two other subjects were arrested on scene, James Michael Lewis age 26 of Fort Payne was charged with Assault second degree, Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication. The second subject arrested was Richard Edward McDaniel age 24 of Fort Payne, he was charged with Assault second degree, Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication.  Warrants were obtained on Monday April 8 for a third subject that interfered with the arrest, Courtney Lashay Clark, age 24 of Fort Payne.  Clark was not arrested at the scene because after she assaulted an officer and was tasered she was transported to the hospital when it was discovered she was pregnant.
