Dekalb County, Al. crash claims one life

GADSDEN POST – According to Trooper Curtis Summerville, Public Information Officer for ALEA, a single-vehicle crash today, July 12, 2019, in DeKalb County has claimed one life and injured another. Yasin Escalante Ortiz, 24, of Boaz was killed when the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, in which he was a passenger, left the roadway and struck a utility pole before striking several trees. Ortiz, who was not using a seat belt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The unrestrained driver of the pickup was also ejected and was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. The crash occurred at 8:05 a.m. on DeKalb County 479, 10 miles north of Boaz. Nothing further is available as ALEA Troopers continue to investigate.
