Alabama Severe Weather Sales Tax Holiday

The State of Alabama’s Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday will be this weekend and run from 12:00 AM (midnight) Friday, February 21st until 12:00 AM (midnight) Sunday, February 23rd, 2020. This tax holiday will allow shoppers stock up on items needed to prepare for weather emergencies, tax-free.

Here are a few of the items included, but not a complete list:  flashlights, two-way radios, fire extinguishers, battery-powered or hand-crank radio, smoke/fire/carbon monoxide detectors, batteries, manual can openers, lanterns, Duct tape, first-aid kits, tie-down kits, bungee cords, rope, cell phone chargers, tarps, plastic sheeting, ice packs, coolers, window film, plywood, portable generators and power cords costing $1,000 or less are also tax-free.

Alabamians are encouraged to take this opportunity to restock their emergency supplies for their homes, workplaces, and vehicles, during this three-day tax holiday.

This tax-free holiday is to help families update their emergency supplies ahead of the Spring Tornado season.

Take this time to plan for your family’s safety during the upcoming Severe Weather Season. Make necessary purchases, tax-free, and be ready and stocked up. Make sure you and your family have a severe weather safety plan, know where your nearest storm shelters are located, have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings, and stay safe during this Spring Severe Weather Season.
