The Dekalb County Commission met for their regular meeting, on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 10:00 am. In this meeting, Dekalb County Commission President Ricky Harcrow recognized Mr. & Mrs. Walter Brooks, who celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in December 2018. Mr. Harcrow, through executive order, declared today as Walter & Christine Brooks Day in Dekalb County. Mr. Harcrow, and the Commission, presented Mr. & Mrs. Brook’s with a resolution as well.
Tom Broyles, with the county road department, updated the commission on work the county road department is currently doing. He reported that crews are currently mowing and making their first application of herbicide spraying and working on county property in Collinsville, which should be finished by this week. Hauling chert and working on a few roads in the Painter area. Mr. Broyles made the recommendation to hire Nick Hardy, who has been a temporary employee with the county road department, to fill a position that is open due to a retirement in the department. The Commission approved the request to hire Mr. Hardy. By hiring Mr. Hardy, that opens a temporary position, in the department, and Mr. Broyles requested permission to post that job position. The Commission approved this request.
Ben Luther, with the County Engineering Department, made the recommendation to post the speed limit for Co. Rd. 485, which runs from Co. Rd. 27 to Co. Rd. 121, at 35 mph. The Commission approved this request.
In the Sheriff’s Department, the Commission approved recommendations to hire one full time dispatcher to replace two part time positions. Also approved the hiring of two training officers for positions that were already available.
Approved the “Back to School Tax Holiday” for the weekend of July 12th – 21st, 2019.
Heard an update from Mrs. Hancock about the Summer reading program from the County Library.
