Tessa Word didn’t allow a single run against Fyffe, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Plainview Bears to a 9-0 victory on Thursday.
Word led the Plainview Bears to victory by driving in five runs. Word went 2-for-4 at the plate. Word drove in runs on a single in the third and a home run in the sixth.
The Plainview Bears notched three runs in the sixth inning. Word had an RBI home run in the inning to lead the run scoring.
One bright spot for Fyffe was a single by Lauren Webb in the fourth inning.
Word pitched the Bears to victory. The pitcher lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out 12 and walking one.
Hatch took the loss for Fyffe. Hatch allowed 11 hits and eight runs over six and a third innings, striking out five and walking one.
Plainview tallied one home run on the day. Word put one out in the sixth inning.
The Bears had 13 hits in the game. Abby Williams, Mia Tidmore, Word, Lily Boswell, and Kadie Brooks all managed multiple hits for the Bears. Williams led Plainview with three hits in four at bats.
