Prescribed Burn Scheduled for Backcountry Area off CR 295

News Release from Little River Canyon National Preserve

February 20, 2024

Residents and visitors to the backcountry area off CR 295 are advised to take note of a prescribed burn scheduled for tomorrow, February 21st. Weather conditions currently appear favorable for the burn, which aims to manage vegetation and reduce wildfire risk in the region.

The burn will necessitate temporary closures affecting various access points. The parking lot off CR 295 and the south end of Road 05 up to Road 08 will be closed to the public. Additionally, Road 04, including the ford, will be inaccessible during the operation. Barricades will be installed at dawn tomorrow, and these closures will remain in effect until Friday.

Authorities stress the importance of adhering to these closures for everyone’s safety. Crossing the barricades is strongly discouraged, as it could pose significant risks to individuals and interfere with the prescribed burn process.

In the event of observing smoke emanating from the designated area, the public is urged not to report it. Officials have assured that the situation is under control, and reporting unnecessary smoke could divert resources from managing the prescribed burn effectively.

Prescribed burns are crucial management tools used to maintain healthy ecosystems and mitigate wildfire hazards. By conducting such controlled burns, authorities aim to reduce the likelihood of uncontrolled wildfires and promote the overall well-being of the backcountry area and its inhabitants.

For further updates and information, individuals are encouraged to stay tuned to local authorities and official channels. Your cooperation and understanding during this operation are greatly appreciated for the safety and preservation of our natural environment.
