DeKalb County – A Tornado touchdown was recorded on Thursday, March 15, 2024, just south of County Road 72, leaving some minor damage in the area. The Tornado was rate an EF-0, with peak winds of 85 mph, path wide of 77 yards, and was on the ground for approximately 0.19 miles.
The Tornado revealed a scene of damage concentrated in three main areas. One of the structures impacted was a chicken house, where the roof panels were peeled off by the force of the winds. Remarkably, the orientation of the damage indicated winds opposite to the primary storm motion, a testament to the Tornado’s erratic behavior.
Further along the Tornado’s path, a pole barn was pushed over and its roof torn off, leaving the 4×4 support beams. The debris from the roof materials was scattered to the east-northeast, contrary to the storm’s motion, adding another layer of complexity to the Tornado’s behavior.
A small barn also had several roof panels ripped off and the structure leaning from west to east. Fortunately, the Tornado lifted just south of the small barn, sparing further destruction in its immediate vicinity.
In the aftermath of the disaster, authorities have extended their gratitude to the Dekalb County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) for their swift response and assistance in completing the storm survey. Their efforts have been instrumental in assessing the extent of the damage and coordinating response efforts to aid those affected by the tornado.
