From the Office of DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden:
FORT PAYNE, Ala. — On April 27th, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Drug Take Back Initiative at First State Bank, located at 246 Main Street East Rainsville.
The take back will be starting at 8 am and running until 12 pm. Items can be any old prescription medication that you want done away with and destroyed.
The event is in conjunction with Leadership DeKalb’s Community Clean-up Day. April 27th will also focus on reducing litter in our communities. Leadership DeKalb has been educating 5th graders across the county on the impact litter can have on their communities.
Vulcraft and DC Gas are also helping sponsor the event. A shred truck will also be on-site to dispose of documents that may contain sensitive information, such as checks or bank records.
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the Drug Take Back Initiative: “This is a great thing for our county and can help keep unused medication from getting in the wrong hands. I’d like to encourage everyone to check their medicine cabinets and if any medication is no longer needed, bring it down to be disposed of.”
“Some may receive pain medication from the doctor, and the pain subsides before all the medication is taken. The excess medicine is usually left in the medicine cabinet, and can be stolen by those who plan on selling it or using it recreationally,” he added.
“I’d like to thank Leadership DeKalb for putting on this event and coordinating the community cleanup. I’d also like to thank Vulcraft and DC Gas for sponsoring the event, said Welden. “God Bless!” Concluded Sheriff Welden
