Crossville man arrested for shooting into occupied dwelling

From the Office of DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden:

FORT PAYNE, Ala. – On Thursday, June 13, 2024, at around 4:15 P.M. deputies were dispatched to County Road 386 in DeKalb County for a report of someone shooting into an occupied dwelling. DeKalb County Investigations Unit and DeKalb County Drug Task Force conducted a search warrant of the residence after one of the victims fled the scene. During the search warrant a sizeable amount of methamphetamine and a handgun was found.  Also, during the search, nine shell casings were found with five of those hitting the residence.

The Investigation unit later identified Jose Guadalupe Perez (34 of Crossville) as the shooter. Perez was booked into Dekalb County Detention Center and charged with Discharge Firearm into Building (x5) and Menacing (x2).

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: “We are so thankful this act of recklessness didn’t take an innocent life.”
