CCA Student Wins 1st Place in Social Studies, at State Beta Convention

Winning 1st place is always great…winning 1st place when you have Aspergers syndrome, is truly great! Aspergers syndrome is a developmental disorder characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction and non-verbal communication.

Local Cornerstone Christian Academy student, Alex Stiefel, son of Dennis and Angela Stiefel of Rainsville, Al., recently won 1st place in 10th grade Social Studies, at the Alabama Senior Beta Convention, held last week in Birmingham, Al.

Alex has Aspergers and his parents couldn’t be prouder of him for this accomplishment. Dad, Dennis Stiefel, “He really has had to overcome some big hurdles to get to this point! We are so proud of him and his great effort that he has put forth in doing Beta! He has come so far!  And we appreciate Cornerstone more than we could ever say or show!  They have helped him grow in so many ways!!!!!  Our hope is that Alex can pave the way for other kids that have autism and help other students understand how they think and feel so they can embrace these kids instead of making them feel more isolated”

Alex won 1st place this year at the State Beta Convention, 1st place last year at the State Beta Convention, and he placed 2nd last year at the National Beta Convention.
