Murder/Suicide in Grove Oak Community

From the Office of DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden:

FORT PAYNE, Ala. – On Thursday, August 8th, 2024, the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Grove Oak community to conduct a welfare check.  After several attempts to make contact with the homeowners, deputies made entry in to the residence and found a male and female deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.  The DeKalb County Criminal Investigation Division responded and processed the scene.  After collecting evidence from the scene, it is believed the male occupant took the life of the female and then took his own life.

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: I would like to thank the 9th Judicial District Attorney’ Office, ALEA and the Geraldine Fire Department for assisting in this investigation.  We may never understand the why of this senseless tragedy, but I do know the family and friends need all your prayers in the months to come.”
