HUNTSVILLE —The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists that U.S. 11 between Hammondville and Sulphur Springs in DeKalb County will be closed to through traffic beginning Thursday, April 16, for replacement of the bridge over Dry Creek.
Through traffic in both directions will be detoured to Interstate 59 via Alabama 117 at Hammondville and DeKalb County 140 at Sulphur Springs. This closure is anticipated to remain in place through Fall 2020 while the bridge constructed in 1928 is demolished and a new bridge is constructed. The new bridge will be about 60 feet longer and 20 feet wider than the old bridge, improving safety for motorists.
The Bridge Builders are the contractor on the $2,782,390 project.
