In the Class 3A girls championship game today the Pisgah Lady Eagles got out to a solid start in the first period, leading Montgomery Academy by a score of 11-10. By halftime the Eagles had extended their lead to 27-20. In the first half, Annie Hughes lead the Eagles with 13 points and 3 rebounds. After halftime, in the 3rd period, Montgomery Academy tried mounting a come back and closing the score to 33-28. At the beginning of the 4th period Annie Hughes landed a 3 pointer and then Pisgah got a steal on Montgomery Academy’s next inbound and scored a lay up. After those two scores, Montgomery Academy mounted a rally in the 4th period to get within 1 point with 37.7 seconds left, Pisgah was leading 42-41. Hughes got fouled and hit one for two, from the foul line, took the lead 43-41. Hughes, fouled again, hit two additional foul shots to lift the Eagles to a 41-46 victory.
