Over 12 pounds of methamphetamine seized over the weekend

FORT PAYNE, Ala. – Over this past weekend, DeKalb County Deputies, along with DeKalb County Narcotics, ADETF Region F and a Deputy K-9 Unit with Albertville PD seized over 12 pounds of methamphetamine, 300 grams of marijuana and a large sum of US currency. 

On Saturday, August 10th, DeKalb County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Al Hwy 35 in Rainsville for a suspected DUI.  During the stop, a K-9 Unit was called and alerted on the vehicle in several locations finding a large amount of methamphetamine.  William Ray Hughes (70 of Fyffe) was placed under arrest.

As a result of this traffic stop, agents obtained a search warrant for the residence as well.   When Agents arrived at the residence on Road 996 in Fyffe, Thomas Earl Wadsworth (42 of Fyffe), who also resided in the residence, was home.  During a search of the home, a large sum of US currency and about a pound of methamphetamine was recovered.  A trafficking amount of methamphetamine and 300 grams of marijuana was also recovered in a vehicle containing Mr. Wadsworth’s belonging.

Hughes was charged with Trafficking in any Illegal Drug and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Wadsworth was charged with Trafficking in any Illegal Drug, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. 

DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: “I deeply appreciate everyone involved in this arrest.  So many lives would have been ruined with this poison continuously on the streets and lives could have possibly been lost if not for the meticulous attention to detail, and for that I thank you all.”
