This morning, Friday, August 18, 2023, The DeKalb County EMA released a statement that a Nortfolk Southern train had derailed in Northern parts of DeKalb County, near the Alabama-Georgia state line.
“Norfolk Southern and EMA personnel have confirmed a derailment of 5 train cars near the Alabama / Georgia line inside of DeKalb County. This derailment is in a remote location of North DeKalb County near Battelle.
Norfolk Southern has advised THERE IS NO HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INVOLVED AND THERE IS NO THREAT TO LIFE.”
