The following information was published on the Fort Payne Police Departments Official Facebook page this morning:
“Rumors about a gun at the FPHS pep rally…
We wanted to address rumors that are circulating on some social media sites. It has been brought to our attention that someone had brought or will be bringing a weapon to last weeks or this weeks pep rally, at the Fort Payne High School. There has been no official complaint or report made by anyone or the cities school system itself. The safety of our students and school faculty are one of our highest priorities at the department. That being said, our department in conjunction with the city school system still thoroughly investigated this matter, even though it was just a rumor. We have so far found nothing to substantiate the rumor and feel there is no real threat. As a precautionary move and to ease any concerns, we will have extra officers around and on our school properties for an undisclosed amount of time. “
