FORT PAYNE, Ala. – On Monday, September 21st, 2026, Sylvania Police Officers and Dekalb County Deputies responded to a BOLO being given out for a reckless driver in a small black car, possibly under the influence of narcotics, headed from Jackson County into the Sylvania area.
Sylvania Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as Kadence L. Pratt (21 of Dutton), failed to stop and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit, which took officers and deputies down multiple roads in Southwest Sylvania, Pratt swerved into oncoming traffic multiple times endangering the lives of innocent motorists.

Near the intersection of HWY 75 and County Road 108, a Dekalb County Deputy initiated a PIT maneuver which ended the pursuit. Pratt was taken into custody and liquid methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was found within the vehicle.
Pratt was arrested and charged with Trafficking Meth, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Felony Attempt to Elude, DUI- Controlled Substance, and Reckless Endangerment.
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: “This was a dangerous situation which put so many innocent people at risk. All law enforcement acted quickly, followed their training and brought the pursuit to an end. Every choice we make has consequences, and sometimes one bad decision can change the direction of your future.”
