FORT PAYNE — Fort Payne Police Department recorded a busy week of thefts, property damage, traffic crashes and arrests from Sept. 7 through Sept. 13, 2026. Officers reported 15 accidents during the period, none with injuries, and 11 people were taken into custody.
The week opened Monday, Sept. 7, with the theft of a 2019 Nissan Versa valued at $8,000 from 105 17th Street SW. That day police arrested Johnathan Lyshawn Byers, 28, of Collinsville, for DUI at 1:08 a.m.; Jeremy Martinez Spradlin, 41, of Fort Payne, for criminal trespass at 8:58 a.m.; and Desmond Lee Smith, 32, of Fort Payne, for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 3:38 p.m. One accident was reported.
On Tuesday, miscellaneous items worth $32.99 were taken from Walmart. A phone scam at 21 County Road 291 cost a resident $1,200. David James Stevens, 29, of Birmingham, was arrested at 10:01 p.m. on a warrant for an outside agency. Five accidents occurred, none with injuries.
Wednesday brought criminal mischief at 151 5th Street NE, where a headliner, passenger seat and center console lid were damaged, a loss valued at $450. William Tony Walker Jr., 48, of Gadsden, was arrested at 4:34 a.m. for disorderly conduct. William Denny Powell, 46, of Ider, was arrested at 12:38 p.m. on four warrants for an outside agency. Three accidents were reported.
Thursday’s only arrest was Jimmy Dale Haynes, 50, of Fort Payne, taken into custody at 9:49 p.m. on a failure-to-appear warrant. One accident was logged.On Friday, a 2011 Ford F-150 damaged a railroad crossing at 100 5th Street NE, causing $500 in damage. No arrests were made. One accident occurred.
Saturday, a chain-link fence at 1808 Godfrey Avenue NE was damaged, a loss of $2,000. Leonardo Hoswaldo Alonzo, 19, of Fort Payne, was arrested at 3:33 a.m. for DUI and underage consumption of alcohol. Jose Matias Pascual, 28, of Fort Payne, was arrested at 4:02 p.m. for domestic violence and on a warrant for an outside agency. One accident was reported.
Sunday closed the period with two thefts: miscellaneous items worth $10.44 from Walmart, and a Taurus GX2 9mm firearm valued at $200 from 104 14th Street NW. Brooklyn Cheyenne Whitton, 26, of Valley Head, was arrested at 3:21 p.m. for theft of property. Makisha Avila Burden, 50, of Fort Payne, was arrested at 11:55 p.m. for driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Three accidents occurred, again with no injuries.
