FORT PAYNE, Ala. – On Monday, May 12th, 2025, at approximately 6:20pm Dekalb County 911 received a shots fired call on County Road 1001 in Valley Head. Dekalb County Deputies responded and saw what appeared to be bullet strikes on an occupied residence and unoccupied vehicle at that scene. Deputies began securing the scene and speaking with victims when a large amount of gunfire broke out from the direction of County Road 9045, passing directly over deputies’ heads in close proximity.
The volley of gunfire was tracked to an address on County Road 9045 adjacent to the original scene on County Road 1001. Responding deputies observed two male subjects outside that residence who fled back into the residence as deputies arrived.
A perimeter around this residence was set and Dekalb County SRT members and Dekalb County Criminal Investigators responded. All occupants of the residence were eventually called out and detained without incident.
Investigators observed dozens of cartridge cases around the residence on County Road 9045 and a search warrant was obtained and executed. After processing both scenes and interviewing involved parties, it was determined that a total of four subjects had fired from the County Road 9045 residence down into two residences and a parked vehicle on County Road 1001. A firearm with an altered serial number was recovered from the residence along with ammunition and a large amount of cartridge cases. There was also evidence of heavy alcohol use present on scene.
