What is New at the Zoo?

If you haven’t been to the Birmingham zoo lately then you haven’t been to the zoo! The Birmingham zoo, is managed by a private non-profit corporation, has redesigned the properties and modernized the facilities.

The Birmingham Zoo offers guests of all ages the opportunity to encounter exotic animals of all shapes and sizes. Although the zoo opened its gates in 1955, it has expended and now houses 700 animals of 200 species. Creatures such as elephants, lion and lioness, red pandas, monkeys, rhinos, giraffes, sea lions and a jaguar along with many others enjoy their days under the protection of the Birmingham Zoo. The Birmingham Zoo, which is a great day trip with just an hour and a half drive, is open daily from 9am to 5pm.

Furthermore, the zoo offers various activities for children including interactive giraffe feedings, goat walks, sea lion shows, camel rides. As well as newly built additions for children which include a carousel, splash pad, train rides, and giant wild slides. The zoo hosts many seasonal events such as Birmingham’s Largest Easter Egg Hunt (April 20), Breakfast with the Easter Bunny (April 20), The 14th Annual Zoo Run (May 18), and Zoo Camps (various dates). In addition to providing exotic animal encounters to the guests, special sensory inclusive facilities are provided within the zoo’s grounds. The zoo plans to continue to remodel and improve in the upcoming years, allowing their guests to experience the Birmingham Zoo in high quality. The Birmingham Zoo, as of 1991, is a non-profit organization with the mission of “Inspiring Passion to Conserve the Natural World.”
